Maglite is a manufacturer renowned for its high quality products. Unlike cheaper flashlights, Maglite products are constructed from. This design adds a great deal in terms of durability and longevity. Additionally, Maglites have a brighter output than a typical mass-market flashlight. For these reasons, police officers and other professionals choose Maglite products. Bearing that in mind, on some occasions, you may need to assemble or disassemble your Maglite.

While they are very durable, they are not indestructible. Here are a few things to consider if you ever need to put one of these flashlights back together. Know the Series Before making any serious repairs to your Maglite, you should know which series it belongs to. Simply check the serial number, located near the front of the flashlight on the barrel. Changing the Bulb One benefit of Maglites is that they all come with a spare bulb.

Generally, the spares are inside the. To locate your spare bulb, first remove the tail cap.

Once you have separated it from the rest of the flashlight, hold it in two hands, and turn it in opposite directions. This should reveal the lamp protector, which houses the spare bulb.

Even if you bought your Maglite used, it is still worth your time to check for this spare bulb. Otherwise, just order another bulb based on the series. Once you have obtained replacement bulb, simply unscrew the head.

Remove the retaining collar, unscrew the faulty bulb, and then screw in the new one. At this point you only need to replace the collar and head gasket. Make sure to flip the switch to check if the new bulb is functional, as you do not want to get stuck in the dark later.

Replacing the Switch To replace the switch, first unscrew the back of the flashlight and remove the. Next, remove the head assembly and unscrew the bulb retaining collar. This allows you to remove the lamp.

At this point, you should be able to grasp the switch with your thumb and forefinger and remove it. You must then use a hex wrench to remove the setscrew. Make sure the switch button is in the down position while this is taking place. A wooden rod may come in handy while removing the switch assembly from the barrel.

Once you have removed the parts, you can begin to reassemble the. This process essentially involves doing everything you just did, but in reverse. You must add the switch assembly to the tail cap end of the barrel, then tighten the setscrew with a hex wrench. Make extra sure that you do not over-tighten the screw, as this can cause more problems than you bargained for. Now you need to put the switch seal back in place by pinching it with your thumb and forefinger.

Once the seal is evenly seated around the edges of the hole, you can screw the back in, replace the bulb collar, and put the head and tailcap back onto the flashlight.
