Books for All provides books in accessible formats for pupils in Scotland who have difficulty with ordinary printed text, including those with dyslexia, who have a physical disability or who are blind or partially sighted. We regret that books cannot be downloaded for learners outwith Scotland at this time. Books should be downloaded by staff - not pupils - to comply with copyright terms and conditions.

First, log in to the database: Staff can either log in with your Glow account or your school's Scran account. All Scottish teachers have Glow accounts, and all Scottish schools have Scran accounts. Glow: Click on at the right hand side of the screen.

Use your Glow username and password to log in. Scran: Type in your school's Scran username and password to the Scran Log In at the right hand side. Every school in Scotland has a Scran account - if you don't know yours, contact Andrew James at Scran by either phoning 0131 651 6816 or emailing - he will tell you your school's username and password which you can then use to log in. Teachers can also get free Scran access at home: click to apply. Then search for and download book(s) you need: To search for a book, type the author or title into the 'Search Database' box and press the Enter key, or click Go.

If you want to narrow down you search (say to look for books only in Large Print, or from a particular publisher), click on. Read the books: For advice on reading and accessing the books, see the pages at the left side of the page. The Books for All Database is managed by and funded by the Scottish Government.

The database is maintained by Scran. 'I find this site invaluable because we can download on to iPads and then the screen and fonts can be adapted for dyslexic students and students with sight issues.'

Rebecca Gow here in CALL, with help from James, a student, have gone through this treasure trove and sorted the files into complete books.
